Airport Transfer

The distance from Keflavík International Airport to Reykjavík is 55 km or a 45-minute drive. There are several companies offering bus transfers from Keflavik airport to Reykjavik. They are similarly priced (19-24 EUR price range) and offer free wi-fi on the bus. The main difference is in their schedule, baggage restrictions, and drop-off locations:

Bus Services

FlybusOption 1: Transfer from KEF airport and BSI main bus terminal in downtown Reykjavik: Trip is ca 40 minutes. Flybus – Option 2: Flybus+ (with hotel pick-up and drop-off): Transfer from KEF airport to hotel in Reykjavik. This costs a few EUR more. The bus starts the same way, taking you from the airport to the BSI main terminal in Reykjavik. There, you go on a smaller bus that drops you off in front of the hotel, or the nearest bus-stop, depending on the street. Flybus booking link and schedule

Grey Line, like Flybus, offers direct shuttle bus transfers from the airport to hotels in Reykjavik, and a similar service by Grey Line Premium. Grey Line Iceland booking and schedule

Taxi or special pick-up

You can also get a taxi outside the Keflavik airport and you can expect to pay 180-250 EUR. Most taxi services do offer fixed pricing if you book in advance, and for a couple of people sharing a regular taxi or a group sharing a larger taxi, this can be a good option. There is no Uber in Iceland, and the taxis by the terminal are all licensed drivers operating with official taxicab stations. You can expect to save 20-40 EUR by arranging a “private pick up” from a taxi service by ordering ahead. Information about different taxi services in Iceland and links

Public transportation

Public transportation is the cheapest way to get from Keflavik airport to downtown Reykjavik. There are no railroads or trains in Iceland, so it’s by bus only. Public Reykjavik Airport Bus number 55 connects you to Reykjavik from the terminal. You can expect to save 7-10 EUR each way by taking a public bus rather than a bus service company. The main disadvantage is operating hours and limited schedule, and it takes longer as there are more stops along the way. Regular price is around 13-15 EUR. Public Bus to/from KEF-Airport
